Big changes happening here in the Katerberg household and I can finally share about it:)
We are moving to Sacramento, CA in less than two weeks!!!
Here is how this all happened if you care:
Back in Oct. 2010, Brian and I discussed things that were going on at his work and we came to the conclusion that it was time to move on. God confirmed this decision in so many ways. So, Brian updated his resume and looked up companies that he thought he would like to work at. In Nov. he had his first interviews but the companies decided to hire someone else. No biggie, answer to prayers. We had our house on the market at the time, but nothing was happening with it. Then with Carson's birth and the holidays, things came to a halt. We expected it, but were anxious to start a new chapter in our lives. We took the house off the market so we could wait through the holidays and then put it fresh on the market two months later.
So now we are in late March and the house is back on the market and Brian is continually looking for a job. He had a few interviews and we had two showing on the house. Then the offer came....
and then the Good Friday tornado hit. We had some damage but nothing that couldn't be cleaned up in time. The sale went through and we were moving into a two bedroom apartment. Incidently, the same apartment complex both brian and I lived in at different times before we met and married. Now we are living here with two kids!!! It has been challenging but the pay off is great.
So now we are in June. No job prospects at the time. Brian decided to put his resume out on monster and started receiving emails and calls within 24 hours. A lot of the companies were no interest to him, but then there was one company that caught his attention. The only problem....it is in California!!! He was a little hesistant explaining this one as we were mostly focusing our attention on the midwest. Last time I checked, California is far from the midwest.
We decided to proceed with it to see if this is what God had planned for us. Meanwhile, I AM getting confirmation from God that this is where he wants us. Let me back up a little. I feel like I always struggle with "how do I know it is God talking to me?" Not sure if other people have this problem, but I always do. Well, I know he was talking to me in this situation. I can't explain how, I just know. It happened through other people. Blogs that I read, friends praying for us, and many other ways. It was obvious it was God reassuring me that God was in control.
July is when the offer came. Kicker is.... they wanted him to start in 6 weeks. Another answer to prayer - house is sold and we don't have to worry about it. So now we are packing up, saying good bye to family and friends (so hard to do) and trying to find a place to live out there (over the internet). By the way, if anyone knows how to pack up their family and move them to a place they have never been, let me know. I am excited, but scared.
Not sure if all of this has made sense but here is the run down. Brian was offered a position in Sacramento, CA and we are moving there!!! We leave the St. Louis, MO area on the 22nd. We will take about a week to drive the 2000 miles making some stops in Denver and Utah to take a break from the van. We are trying to finalize things here in the next week and a half. We are excited to hit the mountains!!!
So there you have it, big changes...changes that I am very afraid of but excited at the same time. Changes that I never saw coming 6 months ago when we thaught God was leading us to the midwest. Changes that we are relying on God to guide us and we know he is. We are excited but scared. Goodbye Missouri, hello California!!!
